Township of Adjala-Tosorontio: Glencairn Profile

The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio is a relatively small-town calling home to almost 11 thousand residents. Agriculture is the focus in the town, and you will see that as you drive by acres of farmland and rolling landscapes.

The small community of Glencairn is a very quiet neighborhood, perfect for anyone looking to trade the sounds and bustle of the city for peace and quiet land and living. Single-family homes with larger lot sizes make up most of the property types here.

There are two elementary schools located within the township, but neither is local to the Glencairn neighborhood, so students are bussed to Adjala Public School in the nearby community Loretto. Students in high school are bussed to the nearby Township of Essa to attend Nottawasaga Pines Secondary school.

There’s also plenty of green space and walking trails to enjoy within the town. The Simcoe County Trail Brentwood Tract is a network of walking trails that takes you through a forested area that’s peaceful and undisturbed. This trail is also great to use for snowshoeing during the winter because of its flat terrain. The Glencairn Conservation Area also has a short walking trail that takes you along the perimeter of the Mad River. In addition to the walking trail, many local people also fish here as well because there are plenty of different fish species in this area. Lastly, Glencairn Park is the sole park in this neighborhood. It has a playground and a couple of picnic tables, along with plenty of land for kids to run around and play.

Since the township of Adjala is so small it does not have a recreation center or town resources of its own for residents, so they have organized a rebate program for those who take part in programs or activities in nearby townships Essa and New Tecumseth. This program also applies to resources used at either of their libraries. Both townships offer a variety of swimming, skating, and hockey programs, as well as camps for kids to enjoy all year round.

There are a few local stores and restaurants in the center of the township. A couple of the general stores carry small grocery items and necessities, but residents must travel to larger centers like Essa or New Tecumseth to buy groceries, gas, and anything else they may need. The Globe Restaurant is a local fine dining restaurant that’s menu is updated seasonally and inspired by-products available. It’s a very popular restaurant for residents and visitors, especially during the summer as it has a beautiful patio and scenery surrounding it.
