Living in Barrie North

Barrie’s North neighborhood is a beautiful tree-lined neighborhood that has a mix of housing styles like single-family homes, townhomes, and apartment buildings. As you drive through the neighborhood you will see many different building designs and architecture as the houses were built throughout the decades. This neighborhood also continues to grow commercially with new businesses and developments popping up all the time.

Traveling to and from the neighborhood, and around the city is very easy. There are two quick access points to the 400 via Bayfield Street and Duckworth Street. Barrie Public Transit also travels throughout this neighborhood to various parts of the town. Route 6 will take you to the College area and downtown Barrie, as well as Route 1, travels through the Cundles area, downtown Barrie, and Park Place.

There are plenty of school options within the neighborhood, Cundles Heights Public School, Terry Fox Elementary School, and Monsignor Clair Catholic School are just some elementary school options. Students in high school can attend either Eastview Secondary School, Barrie North Collegiate Institute, or St. Joseph’s Catholic High School. For young families interested in finding childcare that’s local to this neighborhood, Emma King Child Care and Monsignor Clair Child Care are both great options with an extensive early childhood education programming.

Barrie North is also home to one of the Georgian College campuses. Georgian College offers a variety of programs from health sciences to business and the arts. It’s a great post-secondary education option for students and provides a wealth of opportunities.

Access to recreation within the neighborhood is plentiful. The Cundles West Park and MacMorrison Park both have a playground and baseball diamond, as well as MacMorrison Park, has an additional horseshoe pit that’s great for adults to enjoy as well. The East Bayfield Recreation Centre is also located just 10 minutes away and has a variety of city-organized programs for swimming and skating. For those who enjoy walking, Barrie’s waterfront is just a 15-minute drive away and you can walk along the 6-kilometer Kempenfelt Bay shoreline.

This neighborhood has everything that you need within a five-to-10-minute drive. Zehr’s, No Frills, and Shopper’s Drug Mart will fulfill all your grocery and small item needs. There’s an LCBO next to the Zehr’s and a gas station for quick gas fill-ups.

If you’re looking for a great option to dine locally, the Symposium Café is known for its delicious breakfasts and brunch options, but they do have a full dining menu with vegetarian options for lunch and dinner. It’s a relaxed family atmosphere and will be sure not to disappoint.
