Living in Honey Harbour

The Georgian Bay Township is located just an hour and a half away from Toronto and is a popular destination for seasonal residents. The township is made up of three smaller communities Mactier, Honey Harbour, and Port Severn and has a permanent population of 2482, but triples in size during the summer months with cottagers boasting over 15 thousand seasonal residents.

Honey Harbour is the gateway to the 30 thousand islands of Georgian Bay making it a major access point for summer cottages scattered throughout the islands and coves of Georgian Bay. If you are in the market for a lakefront cottage, Honey Harbour is the perfect location because many of the cottages here are water access only. Because of this Honey Harbour has twelve different marinas, as well as a great number of cottages, that have their own personal docks.

The only public school local to the community is the Honey Harbour Public School. Students in high school living in the Township of Georgian Bay will attend the Georgian Bay District Secondary School. For those looking for Catholic School options, St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School in nearby Victoria Harbour is a great option as well as St. Theresa’s Catholic High School in Bracebridge.

Greenspace is not limited to Honey Harbour. Honey Harbour Park is popular all year round as it has an acre of green space for kids and families to enjoy, as well as a playground, six pickleball courts, and a basketball court. Residents of Honey Harbour fundraised to support the creation of the pickleball courts that could be utilized by all ages to play casual games and host tournaments. During the winter the township will build an outdoor rink for residents here to play hockey and skate on.

Georgian Bay Islands National Park is located on one of the islands in Georgian Bay and can only be accessed by boat. If you do not have your own boat, there are a couple of water taxi companies that are available to bring you to the island. Visiting the park is a popular activity throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall for visitors and residents alike. For those who enjoy hiking, the park has a network of trails from easy strolls to longer hikes. Canoeing and kayaking are also popular to do in the area especially during the Fall as it presents a beautiful backdrop of fall foliage.

If you’re looking for a great place to dine in Honey Harbour, Top of the Cove Wine and Dine provides a relaxed atmosphere and overlooks Georgian Bay. This restaurant is only opened seasonally to accommodate the seasonal traffic that pours in by cottagers. The food is delicious and there is something for everyone here as they also provide vegetarian options.

Honey Harbour is a great location for those looking for cottages and access to a variety of recreation. The area is beautifully surrounded by forestry and lakefront views.
