Huntsville Profile

Just two and a half hours outside of Toronto you will find the Town of Huntsville. It’s the largest town in the Muskoka region and is surrounded by beautiful rock features, dense forests, and water, making it a desirable location for private and public waterfront properties. Huntsville’s population year-round is close to 20 thousand people but increases during the Winter and Summer months. In total, the town boasts over 40 parks, beaches, and playgrounds providing opportunities for a variety of recreational activities.

The Meadow Park neighborhood was developed in the early 1970s making it one of the oldest subdivisions. Situated in the heart of Huntsville this neighborhood provides a variety of home styles and green spaces. Single-family properties make up much of this neighborhood, but you will also find some multi-family residences.

Huntsville has started to attract more people to move North in recent years and has a couple of different developments happening that will be finished in the next year. The Crescent Bay Condo development is scheduled for completion in 2022 and provides panoramic views of Fairy Lake perfect for individuals looking for waterfront living options. Other townhome and condo developments, The Summit and Alexander Condominiums are also set for completion in 2022 providing many home options for relocators in the near future.

More importantly for families with school-aged children, Huntsville has a couple of public and catholic school options. Huntsville Public School, Riverside Public School, and Saint Marie Catholic School are just some local elementary school options. Huntsville High School is the only local high school option.

For young and growing families, Huntsville Co-op Nursery School and Day Care Centre, and Steppingstone Home Child Care are just a couple of local childcare options central to various neighborhoods. Within the downtown core, you will also find Huntsville’s Public Library which provides a variety of programs for children through adults that foster lifelong learning opportunities.

The Muskoka region is known for its abundance of recreational activities year-round for those that enjoy the outdoors. Huntsville is surrounded by many lakes providing a variety of options for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking on Fairy Lake, or Muskoka River. Kayaking and canoeing are both very popular activities in Huntsville during the Summer and especially Fall. For those that enjoy walking and hiking, Lion’s Lookout is a five-kilometer hike that provides a challenging hike and beautiful lookout of the town from the top.

For individuals who enjoy winter activities like skiing and snowboarding, nearby Hidden Valley Ski provides a great location for skiing and snowboarding with many slope options of different levels of difficulty. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Muskoka also has a variety of outdoor skating trails to enjoy. Arrowhead Park provides a beautiful outdoor skating experience as you skate along the trail through a scenic forest.

Downtown Huntsville on Main Street provides an abundance of history and is the place to be if you love to shop. From jewelry to clothing, antiques to toy stores, there is something for everyone here. The Little Place by the Lights is a popular family-owned restaurant located on Main Street that serves homemade Italian food and is the perfect spot for a date night or if you just want to enjoy some delicious food.

The Town of Huntsville is a great place to live for those looking for a destination filled with charm, vibrant neighborhoods, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy recreational activities all year round.
