Living in Barrie: Innishore

The Innishore neighborhood is one of Barrie’s fastest-growing areas and has been for the last fifteen years. With multiple residential and commercial developments, it has brought a more diverse culture and lifestyle to this neighborhood with individuals moving to Barrie from all around. As you drive through the neighborhood you will see that subdivisions are more modern in style, built from the 90s onward. Innishore also offers a selection of waterfront homes that overlook the east side of Kempenfelt Bay. Despite the amount of growth this neighborhood has seen there remains to be plenty of access to nature through parks and trails to escape the busy lifestyle.

Innishore is home to many families and that’s why you will see that there are many school options within the neighborhood. Some Elementary schools are Algonquin Ridge Elementary School, Hewitt’s Creek Public School, and St. John Paul II Separate School. Students in high school will attend Maple Ridge Secondary School or St. Peter’s Catholic School.

The Hewitt’s Creek Child Care Centre is located within the Hewitt’s Creek Public School. They offer early childhood education programs for toddlers as young as 18 months old. In addition to their early childhood education programs, they also offer before and after school programs, and camps for school-aged children.

As mentioned, the Innishore neighborhood has plenty of access to green space, parks, and trails to enjoy. Tyndale Park is one of three popular parks within the neighborhood which has a large green space, playground, and gazebo that’s perfect for picnics and events. Minet’s Point Park is located just minutes away from Centennial Beach which offers a sandy shoreline, playground, and shallow boat launch. This area is less trafficked, and many residents will go here if Centennial Beach is too busy. For those who enjoy walking, the Wilkin’s Walk is a 2.7-kilometer trail that starts at Wilkin’s Beach. This trail is surrounded by trees and accessible for all as the landscape is flat.

More importantly, there are plenty of amenities local to the neighborhood. There is a Zehr’s, Giant Tiger, and Shopper’s Drug Mart to satisfy your grocery needs. There is a Tim Horton’s minutes away when you need coffee fix and a Petro Canada for quick gas fill-ups all central to the neighborhood.

If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy dinner with your family or have a date night, the Urban Dish is a great place to go. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is very relaxed while also providing a fine dining like experience.

The Innishore neighborhood will only continue to grow and diversify in the future and continues to be a sought-after neighborhood in Barrie.
