Oro-Medonte: Horseshoe Valley Profile

The Township of Oro-Medonte is home to more than 20 thousand residents and is known for its picturesque views of rolling hills combined with the scenic shoreline of Lake Simcoe, and wide-open space. The town is made up of many smaller communities like Horseshoe Valley, Craighurst, Oro-Station, Shanty Bay, Warminster, Big Cedar, Guthrie, and Edgar.

The Horseshoe Valley community is nestled amongst nature and offers all types of home variations. As you drive along Horseshoe Valley Road you will see that single-family homes with large lot sizes are a common property type and because of its spacious living experience, this community is great for young and growing families. In addition, Horseshoe Valley is just a little more than an hour from Toronto and highway 400 is easily accessible from municipal roadways for those commuting to the city for work.

While there are no schools directly located within the small Horseshoe Valley community, depending on which side of Horseshoe Valley Road you live on, will depend if your child either attends school at Guthrie Public School or Warminster Public School. However, students in high school are bussed to the City of Orillia to attend either Twin Lakes Secondary School or Orillia Secondary School since there are no high schools local to Oro-Medonte.

There’s plenty of green space to enjoy in the town and along Horseshoe Valley Road you will find Horseshoe Valley, Memorial Park. This is a great park for kids and even adults to enjoy as they have recently installed a tennis and basketball court. Additionally, there’s also a big playground for kids to play in.

In Oro-Medonte you can find an abundance of recreation activities and attractions. Horseshoe Resort is a four-season destination and home to an extensive collection of recreational trails for fat biking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and mini snowmobiling. In the winter you can also hit the slopes on one of their 28 different ski runs. During summer residents can enjoy a round on their golf course, ride the zip line, or experience an ATV adventure.

For those that enjoy walking and hiking Oro-Medonte has an abundance of trails for you to enjoy. Copeland Forest offers a peaceful walk-through nature, full of towering pines and other trees. There are more than 200 kilometers of trails to discover, so you can explore the park in any direction you would like.

However, sometimes we all need to relax and unwind, and Horseshoe Valley has just the place for this. The Vetta Nordic Spa opened just a few short weeks ago and offers an authentic Finnish Hydrotherapy experience. There’s a range of saunas, hot and cold pools, steam rooms, and massage therapy options to provide you with a relaxing day and have you leave feeling rejuvenated.

Lastly, Oro-Medonte boasts a variety of local shopping and dining experiences. If you’re interested in a romantic date night dinner you may consider the KTCHN at Braestone Club. This a new restaurant to the town and you will be blown away by the service and cuisine. However, if you’re looking for something more relaxed, Quayle’s Brewery has a large outdoor patio or tasting room for you to enjoy a nice beverage and some comfort food.

Horseshoe Valley provides a countryside living experience with large homes and open space to enjoy. Recreation is not limited here and is the perfect place for a balanced life of work and play.
