Living in Stayner

The Township of Clearview is large geographically but it’s small in the sense that you feel a part of a community. Clearview borders many municipalities from Adjala-Tosorontio all the way to Collingwood and is made up of several smaller communities like Stayner, Creemore, New Lowell, and Nottawa.

Stayner is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere. Its historic commercial district is filled with well-preserved Edwardian architecture and more recently is seeing increasing growth of new residents and developments. As you drive through the community you will see that single-family home styles make up most of the housing types, with large lots that are perfect to raise a family.

Stayner is located just an hour and a half away from Toronto and easily accessible via the 400 towards highway 26. Other larger urban centers are all within a 30-minute drive such as Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, and Barrie. There is a Stayner/Wasaga Beach bus line that runs hourly for those that rely on public transportation. Stops are made in a few of Stayner’s neighborhoods before traveling to the main commercial district, and on to Wasaga where it will also make stops in Wasaga’s downtown district and a few neighborhoods.

It’s important to note that there are two schools that are local to Stayner, Clearview Meadows Elementary School and Stayner Collegiate Institute.

For those who are seeking a home that’s close to recreational opportunities, Stayner is the perfect place to relocate or own a second-home property. There is plenty of green space for kids to enjoy throughout the community. Centennial Park is in the heart of Stayner and during the summer is a popular spot for swimming as there is a public outdoor pool here. A second park, Ives Park is perfect for sports enthusiasts as there is a baseball diamond, multiple tennis courts, as well a playground, and a swing set, making it a great spot to spend an afternoon outside with family or friends.

For those who enjoy walking, there are plenty of walking trails in Stayner and throughout Clearview. The Clearview EcoPark Loop is a popular trail in Stayner amongst residents that’s just over five kilometers long and connects downtown Stayner with Clearview’s newest naturalized area. This trail is accessible for everyone with some sidewalk-constructed areas mixed in a built trail network.

Stayner has a multipurpose arena and community center which offers organized skating lessons and hockey leagues as well as public skates. There is a gym upstairs where residents can enjoy fitness classes. The community is known for its vibrant events and is where most of its events take place.

One of the more popular events is the Stayner Kinsmen Duck Race which happens annually. Over 200 rubber ducks compete in a race and the person who buys the winning duck wins. In addition to the fun race, there’s a Kinsmen BBQ as well as tons of games and activities for the entire family.

The commercial district in Stayner is vibrant with many unique local artisan shops and restaurants. Here you will find a quaint little Italian restaurant called Fornetto which serves a variety of traditional pasta dishes, as well as traditional seafood and meat dishes. This restaurant is very popular amongst residents and is a great place to enjoy a relaxing date night or family dinner.

Stayner may be a small community, but it has a big heart and provides a sense of community we all search for. Its recreation activities are not limited, and it’s sure to be a great place to make a home.
