The Barrie Painswick neighborhood offers a mix of old-century homes and newer, more modern subdivisions consisting of attached and detached homes and townhomes. This area also attracts a large amount of commercial and residential investment, with a couple of different developments happening within. The Copperhill South single-family home development located on Madeline Drive and Mapleview Drive East is currently in its pre-construction phase, as well as the GO Towns townhome development on Mapleview Drive E and Yonge Street.
Painswick offers a family atmosphere and has three different elementary schools within the neighborhood such as Mapleview Heights, Willow Landing, and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic school. For parents that may be working and looking for all-day child care or after-school programs, the Willow Landing Children’s Centre located next to Willow Landing Elementary school provides a convenient location and has a variety of activities that foster education and hands-on learning experiences.
Within the neighborhood, you will find an abundance of green spaces and parks for kids to enjoy. Located behind the St. Michael’s school there is a huge playground with monkey bars and a small climbing wall that kids love. There’s also a tennis court and baseball diamond that is very well kept by the City of Barrie.
Close-by you will find an abundance of shopping, dining, and services on Yonge Street and Big Bay Point. There is a Zehr’s and Shopper Drug Mart to satisfy your grocery needs, Petro gas station, hair and esthetics salons, and pet stores. If you’re looking for a great casual dining experience, Scotty’s is a fantastic option. Barnstormers is just up the street if you would like a great place to enjoy a drink and watch the hockey game with some friends. They have some great craft beer options.
More importantly for the city commuters, access to highway 400 is just a 10-minute drive away to the Mapleview on-ramp, or for those that would like to avoid traffic, the Barrie South Go Station is just a five-minute drive away with multiple trains traveling throughout the day to the city. For those that rely on public transportation, the Barrie Transit travels to this neighborhood and has many stops in and around the perimeter.
Lastly, the Painswick neighborhood is home to Barrie Public Library’s second branch. It’s a beautiful building with a variety of programs for children through adults to become involved in and offers several services to help with homework, research, and daily needs.
