The Township of Springwater gets its name from the cold pure water that springs back and forth from an aquifer. It’s made up of several communities such as Minesing, Midhurst, Elmvale, and Snow Valley. Agriculture runs deep in Springwater and many of their local events are centered around the richness of local producers and bringing the community together.
The community of Minesing is just over an hour to and from Toronto. It offers tree-filled neighborhoods with elegant homes and large lots. This is an up-and-coming area with many residential and commercial developments happening throughout the township.
There is one public elementary school local to Minesing, the Minesing Central Public School. Students in high school will attend the Elmvale District High School located in the nearby community, Elmvale. For those looking for a catholic school option, students will attend either Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Elmvale or St. Joseph’s Catholic High School located in Barrie.
The North Simcoe Rail Trail is a popular trail for walking that runs through the heart of Springwater from the edge of the Minesing wetlands. This trail is accessible for all as it’s a part of the Trans Canada Trail which is very well kept and is all flat terrain. A second trail the Nine Mile Portage Recreation Trail runs from downtown Barrie into Springwater. This trail is 15 kilometers long and follows a variety of trail types making it a moderate hike.
There’s no shortage of green space or recreation activities in Springwater with many parks and fields for kids to get outside and enjoy. Foyston park and Harry Adams Memorial Park, both have playgrounds while Harry Adams Park also has a baseball diamond.
The Minesing Wetlands is a designated wetland spanning more than 15 thousand acres. It’s a popular place for canoeing or kayaking in the summer, and snowshoeing in the winter because of its beautiful views as you ride or walk along between trees and tall grass. It’s also a great place to come to bird-watch or spot wildlife as many different species live here. For golf lovers, Minesing sits in the center of two golf courses, Springwater Golf Course and Vespra Hills Golf Club. Vespra Hills is a unique course as it has 27 holes to play, so you can mix up your front and back nine each time you play. The Springwater Golf Course has a nine-hole course with a driving range and putting green to practice your game.
Important amenities like grocery stores and shopping centers can be found in the North end of Barrie just a 15-minute drive away. If you’re looking for a great local restaurant for date night, Cicco’s Ristorante serves a delicious authentic Italian Menu. Their relaxed atmosphere provides a great place to enjoy each other’s company and some food.
The community of Minesing is small, but its quiet atmosphere and homes with large lots make it a great place to live. It’s still close to larger urban centers and commuting is made very easy with many access points to the highway 400.
