The Allandale neighborhood stretches from Barrie’s waterfront all the way South to the outskirts of the city. Being the city’s oldest neighborhood homes showcase beautiful architecture from different eras and feature heritage Victorian homes. Its quaint vibe, tree-lined streets, and proximity to amenities make the Barrie Allandale neighborhood a desirable place to live in.
The City of Barrie is approximately an hour away from Toronto and is easily accessible by highway 400. If you are commuting to the city for work, the closest on-ramp for the 400 is via Essa Road or you can travel by train using the Allandale GO Station. For residents who rely on public transit, route three travels through this neighborhood, making stops at the Allandale Rec Centre, Park Place, Barrie South GO, and Downtown Barrie.
Currently there are three new developments happening within the neighborhood. Lakeview Towns is a new townhome development by Lakeview Townhomes (Barrie) Inc. It’s currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2022. This development will be home to 14 three-bedroom units and is steps away from the Allandale GO Station.
For families with school-aged children, there are a few different elementary and high school options within the neighborhood. Allandale Heights Public School, Assikinack Public School, and St. John Vianney Catholic School are three elementary school options. Assikinack also offers a before and after school program and makes childcare available on PA days for families needing childcare. Students in high school can either attend Innisdale Secondary School or Unity Christian High School.
Barrie’s Allandale neighborhood makes accessing green space for kids easy as there are plenty of options. Allandale Heights Park and Assikinack Park both have a baseball diamond, playground, and sports field providing a wide area of green space for kids in the neighborhood to play outdoors. In addition, during the winter season at Assikinack Park residents can enjoy a small outdoor rink made and kept by the City of Barrie.
One of the City of Barrie’s recreational facilities is also located within this neighborhood. Allandale Recreation Facility has two ice pads, a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a senior center. The city offers a variety of swimming lessons and aquatic fitness classes, family skates, and regular fitness classes. Additionally, there is a senior center upstairs where seniors can go to socialize, play bingo, and have lunch-ins.
Anyone looking to get involved in their community, the Rotary Club of Barrie headquarters is at the Southshore Community Centre. They spearhead many great initiatives to help make Barrie a better community to live in and sponsor many great events hosted by the City of Barrie. The Southshore Centre can also be rented for events and weddings. This is a great location as it overlooks Kempenfelt Bay providing a stunning backdrop, especially at night. It can hold up to 225 people and tables, chairs, and access to the kitchen is included.
Lastly, Barrie’s Allandale neighborhood has plenty of options to spend time with family and friends, shop, and dine locally. Park Place is a popular place for retail shopping and dining. Local dining restaurant The Italian Eatery can be found in Park Place and is one of the best places to get Italian cuisine in Barrie, as well as the Sweet Oven where you can find a variety of different flavored butter tarts.
Barrie Allandale is a great location to live as there are plenty of recreation options for kids and has many important amenities within the neighborhood.
