Collingwood Profile

The Town of Collingwood is located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay and its natural beauty provides some beautiful views. Although it’s a major tourist attraction for the Greater Toronto Area, in recent years the town has seen tremendous growth in population, especially during the Winter and Summer months. Collingwood is known for the recreational activities it provides, making it a great destination to raise a family or a great cottage location.

Collingwood is just a two-hour drive away from Toronto and is easily accessible by highway 400 and highway 26. For those that rely on public transportation Colltrans, the town’s public transit system provides three regularly scheduled routes in and around the town.

Today the economy is buoyed by services for skiers, sensation seekers, sailors, and spa-goers. The town’s population is made up of long-time locals, timeshare vacationers, and an abundance of hotel and Air BnB properties. As you drive through the town you will see neighborhoods built through various decades from an older style to more modern-day home styles, all surrounded by beautiful trees and greenspace. Downtown Collingwood is a heritage district, which features traditional homes on tree-lined streets that are oriented toward the bay, making this a great location for buyers seeking waterfront properties.

Harbour House is a new condo development being built by Streetcar Developments located at the intersection of Huron Street and Heritage Drive. It’s currently in the pre-construction phase but is scheduled for completion in 2023. It will be home to 130 units inspired by a Scandinavian design that will showcase a subtle expression of luxury.

Near the downtown area, there are a couple of elementary school options such as Admiral Collingwood, Mountainview, and St. Mary’s Catholic School. High school options in and around the area are Collingwood Collegiate Public School and Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School. For young families, there are childcare options also in the downtown area like YMCA Childcare Admiral

Collingwood is a creative and entrepreneurial community that is showcased in Downtown Collingwood through its culinary talent, shops, and local arts. For those that enjoy the outdoors, Collingwood’s trails encompass over 60 kilometers of recreational trails that lead to every major point of interest in the town and surrounding municipalities. The town plans to expand its bike routes, bike parking stations, and safe crosswalks to help promote active transportation and encourage more people to explore the town.

Lastly, there are numerous parks and beaches within Collingwood and surrounding municipalities to enjoy. Sunset Point Park is known for its rocky beach and incredible sunsets. There’s plenty of space to enjoy a picnic, there’s a fry truck on site, and many walking paths to enjoy.
