Living in Stroud

The Town of Innisfil provides the perfect mix of urban and rural living and is about to undergo major expansion and transformation in the next several years with new developments happening. It’s made up of several smaller communities like Stroud, Alcona, and Cookstown, providing that small-town charm you’re looking for.

Stroud is an older community that has remained quiet even as the town has expanded. It’s only a 10-minute drive away from Innisfil’s main core, making important amenities only a short drive away. Single-family homes are one of the only housing styles you will find here. Lots are large and many of the neighborhoods are older in building style, with modern styles mixed in.

The Orbit is a new development that has recently received approval. This new development will transform the center of Innisfil bringing new housing types like condos and townhouses, as well as new transportation options and business developments. This will provide growth and attract a great amount of wealth to Innisfil.

There are a few elementary school options local to Stroud such as the Sunnybrae Public School, and Holy Cross Catholic School. The only public high school option in Innisfil is Nantyr Shores Secondary School which is located toward the main core of Innisfil. Those looking for a catholic school option, students will attend St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School located on the border of Stroud and the City of Barrie.

For families needing childcare, there are a few local options to Stroud, like the Bouncing Ball Nursery School, Innisfil EarlyON Child and Family Center, as well as the YMCA which operates out of the Innisfil Recreation Center. Each provides all-day childcare, as well as after-school programs. Stroud may be small, but it has plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy recreational activities. Leonard’s Beach is a popular place for swimming during the summer as it has a largesandy beach area. There is also a full playground set for kids to enjoy and a boardwalk that provides a nice view as you walk along.

Those who enjoy walking the Rotary Trail is a five-kilometer trail located behind the Innisfil Recreation Center. This trail is an easy walk as it winds through the forest behind the arena, and the surrounding perimeter.

There are two arena’s located in Stroud, the Stroud Arena, and the Innisfil Recreation Center. The Innisfil Recreation Center is a newer facility that has two ice pads, a gymnasium that hosts co-ed volleyball, basketball, and badminton recreation leagues, and a workout gym upstairs. Many of the town’s events take place here because of the large amount of green space that surrounds the facility. The Innisfil Farmers Market takes place here all summer long, every Tuesday and Thursday. You will find many local artisans and farmers set up here to showcase their products.

Lastly, Stroud has many important amenities local to the community. There is a Foodland for your grocery needs, a Pioneer gas station for quick gas fill-ups, and Tim Hortons to satisfy your coffee fix. The Town of Innisfil’s main core is just a 10-minute drive away which provides access to many more amenities, and dining options.

Stroud is a quiet community to live in that has plenty of access to recreation opportunities and important amenities to make living easier.
