Situated almost two hours away from Toronto is the small community of Washago. Washago along with communities of Coldwater and Waubaushene make up the Township of Severn. This quiet community bustles during the summer with seasonal residents because of its access to numerous recreational activities and relaxed style of living.

Residential property styles are limited here to single-family homes, as well as some waterfront and cottage properties.

There are two elementary schools local to Washago, Rama Central Public School and Severn Shores Public School. Students in high school must travel to the nearby City of Orillia to attend either St. Bernard’s Catholic School or Twin Lakes Secondary School.

You’ll see that green space and parks are plentiful in Severn Township. Washago Centennial Park is a popular place during the summer for swimming at the beach. It also has a playground, baseball diamond, soccer field, dog park, and walking trail. During the winter, the township makes an outdoor rink here for community use.

Canoeing, kayaking, and boating are all equally popular activities in Severn because the township is surrounded by water. There’s a municipal dock located at Centennial Park where the Lake Couchiching water trail begins. This trail is approximately three to four hours long taking you along the northern part of Lake Couchiching and surrounding areas. A second water trail in Washago, the Green River trail starts at the municipal dock on Albany Street guiding you through the green river and severn river to Wasdell Falls.

For those who enjoy golfing, Washago has a couple of different golf courses. The Evergreen Golf Centre is a nine-hole course and is a popular place for new and experienced golfers because of the beautiful views it provides.

The Township of Severn offers numerous recreation programs for kids, through adults, and seniors all year round. These programs involve sports like soccer and pickleball, and fitness classes for teens and adults. Lastly, shopping is limited in Washago therefore residents must travel to the nearby community of Coldwater or the City of Orillia for groceries, services, and retail shopping. If you’re looking for a great place to dine out locally, the R Cottage Restaurant is a homespun rustic eatery located in the heart of downtown Washago. All ingredients are locally sourced, and the restaurant is a favorite here by locals and visitors. They have a variety of different interesting menu items that are delicious such as their Spiced Apple Grilled Cheese.

Washago is a great place to find a summer residence because of its access to endless recreational opportunities and relaxed style of living that will help you escape your responsibilities even just for a couple of days.
