Living in Mactier

Mactier is one of three larger communities that makes up the Township of Georgian Bay with a permanent population of 305 residents. While the community may be isolated from other parts of Georgian Bay, it still provides residents with modern lifestyle amenities and is accessible via highway 400. Housing styles are limited here to mostly single-family homes with larger lots as well as some lakefront properties.

Three different school boards serve the Georgian Bay Township depending on what side you reside on. There is one elementary school local to Mactier the Mactier Public School while students in high school will be bussed to Midland to attend the Georgian Bay District Secondary School. Those looking for a Catholic school option must travel to Victoria Harbour to attend St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School for elementary school and Saint Theresa’s High School in Midland.

Access to outdoor activities is not limited here with many beaches, parks, and activities situated within and around Mactier. Stewart Lake Beach is a popular place during the summer months. There is a sandy area for relaxing on the beach, a lake for swimming, and a playground for kids. This is also a great area for fishing as it has an abundance of bass and pike fish. If you enjoy cycling or would like to enjoy a scenic recreational ride, there’s also a short bike ride that begins here, taking you around Lake Joseph, and finishing back at Stewart Lake. This trail will take you through many forested areas, and along lakes and rivers, providing a tranquil setting to enjoy as you ride.

Other recreational activities include boating on beautiful Lake Joseph. There are a few different boat launches in Mactier making boating accessible for residents and visitors. You will also find a couple of parks that have plenty of green space to enjoy, as well as a volleyball court and baseball diamond at Mrs C’s Activity Park.

Even though Mactier is a small community it still has some smaller amenities like a grocery store, bank, library, and LCBO. All of these are in the center of town making them easily accessible. For other urban amenities and shopping, residents must travel to the nearby town of Midland.

Chef Henrie’s Bistro and Café is a newer restaurant to Mactier will but it will certainly not disappoint. Chef Henrie’s provides a casual dining atmosphere that showcases European cuisine. There are a variety of dishes to choose from so there’s something here for everyone.

If you’re looking for a place to relax or retire, Mactier is a great place to live or cottage as it provides a quiet setting to unwind. Entertainment is just around the corner, and you still get to avoid the hustle of larger urban centers.
