The Heart of Muskoka.

Bracebridge

The beginnings of Bracebridge reach as far back as 1860, but the village became official in 1875. It was a prime location for the early settlers with abundant access to water.  Bracebridge was built around a waterfall on the Muskoka River. Now a bustling town, Bracebridge is home to the District of Muskoka’s government.

The beginnings of Bracebridge reach as far back as 1860, but the village became official in 1875. It was settled due to the abundant water surrounding the area.  The waterfalls were a major draw, offering power to the town’s first factories.  When steamboats grew in popularity, the town became a trade and shipping centre for the Muskoka region. Bracebridge was the first town in Ontario to have its own hydro generating station.
