Living in Bracebridge
Even though the region is known for its cottagers, Bracebridge is home to more than 16,000 permanent residents. The town has its own public transit system, parks and trails, retail shopping and more. It’s just two hours north of Toronto and has easy access to Highway 11 connecting to the 400. The Muskoka Airport is just 8 km from downtown Bracebridge, making it an ideal businesses and homeowners alike.
Â
The beginnings of Bracebridge reach as far back as 1860, but the village became official in 1875. It was settled due to the abundant water surrounding the area. The waterfalls were a major draw, offering power to the town’s first factories. When steamboats grew in popularity, the town became a trade and shipping centre for the Muskoka region. Bracebridge was the first town in Ontario to have its own hydro generating station.Â
