Place of the white rolling sands.

Penetanguishene

Located on a picturesque bay off Georgian Bay, Penetanguishene is one of the oldest towns in what was Upper Canada. The town has played an important role, with the Penetanguishene Naval Yard and a base, which closed in 1856. Families from the Montreal area settled here shortly after the War of 1812 to participate in the fur trade, this made the region predominantly French speaking. The troops from the Naval Yard brought English to the town, making it bilingual as we know it today.
