The Corridor to Cottage Country.

Severn

Severn Township is a vast area to the Northeast of Simcoe County. Although there is a small population within its region, the number fluctuates greatly depending on the season. Pushing against the south border of Muskoka, Severn is home to a high number of cottages and summer homes, in a prime location just over an hour drive from the GTA. Due to its massive landscape, Severn Township is home to a multitude of hamlets and villages with different amenities, commercial shops and local cultures.

Living in Severn

Bordering Muskoka on Simcoe County’s northeast edge, Severn Township includes several larger settlements, as well as smaller more rural hamlets: Washago, Waubaushene and Coldwater are larger, with shops, restaurants, churches and even post offices. Smaller communities are renowned for their cottage, resort or camp atmosphere, including Severn Bridge and Port Stanton. Severn has trails, parks, sports fields and beaches scattered across the hundreds of lakes and rivers running through the area. With such a large diversification in landscape, Severn is a fantastic place to see wildlife and enjoy the outdoors.

The Trent-Severn waterway was completed in 1915 transforming the local economy away from the lumber industry and into tourism. The area had been known for its lumber manufacturing for nearly 100 years earlier.
