Living in Ramara: Bayshore Village

The Township of Ramara provides that rural, small-town lifestyle that’s perfect for a cottage location or those entering retirement. Ramara is located along the northeastern shore of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching providing access to an abundance of outdoor adventures and activities.

Just an hour and a half away from Toronto, Ramara is easily accessible via the highway 400 to highway 11. The Bayshore Village community is the gateway to relaxation and retirement with access to plenty of entertainment and activities to keep you occupied, but still far enough away from the bustle of larger urban centers. You will find a mix of housing and waterfront properties here. Mostly single-family homes with larger lots, and small and large cottage properties.

Brechin Public School, Foley Catholic School, and Rama Central Public School are all local elementary schools to Ramara. Since there are no high schools local to the township, students are bussed to the nearby City of Orillia to attend either Twin Lakes Secondary School or Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School.

Since Ramara is located along 104 kilometers of shoreline there are many beaches and boat launches accessible to residents and visitors. Atherley Community Park is the most popular beach in Ramara and is local to Bayshore Village. There’s a beach here for those who just enjoy lounging while the kids go swimming or play at the playground. There’s also a boat launch here for those that enjoy boating. Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe provide some magnificent views of the surrounding landscapes and downtown Orillia as well as Casino Rama Resort.

There are a variety of spots for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors from greenspaces to parks with playgrounds. In the Bayshore Village Bluebird Park has a playground set that’s popular amongst kids who live in the neighborhood as well as Bayshore Drive Park which has plenty of green space for kids to run around.

Mara Provincial Park is a popular destination for visitors as there are camping locations within the park and access to plenty of activities like fishing, swimming, and boating. There are also some walking trails here as well that take you through the forest and along the shoreline providing a peaceful walk.

The Township of Ramara hosts a few community events throughout the year. The Month of Play happens every June and is used to celebrate parks and recreation month to get kids and families outside to enjoy what the area offers. There are a variety of daily activities organized for kids and adults to participate in.

For quick gas fill-ups, you can do this at the local service station Ramada Fuels or Rama Country Market where you can also find some small grocery items. For larger grocery stores and urban amenities, you must travel to the City of Orillia just a 10-minute drive away.

If you’re looking for a great local place to eat, Tailwinds Restaurant & Grill provides a relaxed family atmosphere and delicious gourmet comfort food. It’s located at the Orillia/Ramara airport so you can look at some of the planes before or after you eat.

Entertainment in Ramara is plentiful whether it’s going on an outdoor adventure or going to Casino Rama. Casino Rama and Resort has plenty to do besides gaming. You can enjoy a relaxing day at their spa or catch a show or concert at their entertainment center.  

Ramara may be small but it’s the perfect balance of rural and entertainment lifestyle for those looking for a great cottage location or somewhere to retire.
