A perfect blend of urban and rural living, farming, and small urban services are what you’ll find in New Tecumseth. The township is comprised of three larger townships within, Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham. Alliston offers more of an urban lifestyle with bigger commercial facilities, townhomes, and development landscapes, while Beeton and Tottenham offer more of a rural vibe and sense of community.
Alliston has a population of almost 20,000 people and continues to grow each year. As you drive through the town you will see that single detached homes make up most residences, but semi-detached and townhomes are also available. Alliston will see residential expansion in the future with new developments and proposals happening all the time. Honey Hill is a new single-family home development by Highcastle Homes that’s currently in the pre-construction phase. It will be home to 160 units, with seven quick move-in homes currently for sale. Lots will range in size up to 45 square feet, providing lots of space for growing families.
There are three public elementary schools in the town, Alliston Union, Boyne River, and Ernest Cumberland. The Simcoe County Catholic School Board has one elementary school local to Alliston, Holy Family Catholic School. There is only one local secondary school option being Banting Memorial High School, but for those who are looking for a catholic school option students are bussed to nearby town Tottenham to attend St. Thomas Aquinas. For younger families, Alliston has several options of child daycare such as Wellington Day Care, Sprouts Child Care, and YMCA Child Care Holy Family all situated central to various neighborhoods.
If you’re looking for parks in the area for the kids to get outside, there are a variety of different options. Riverdale Park is currently undergoing a major upgrade in equipment and will be ready for kids to enjoy in 2022. The town has also recently received federal funding to build a multi-use, accessible pedestrian trail along the Boyne River that will connect to the park. In the meantime, some other parks kids and families can enjoy are Hillcrest Park and McCarroll Park both of which have a playground, swing set, and lots of green space to enjoy.
Alliston is a convenient distance from the city making the commute about an hour drive and has quick access to urban centers like Barrie and Newmarket within a 20-minute drive. Last year the Town of New Tecumseth began a LINX Service bus that provides hourly service between Alliston and the Bradford Go Station. There are three different stops in Alliston that can be found at the Recreation facility, King Street, and Church Street.
There is also a public library located in the heart of Alliston that offers a variety of programs for kids through adults that foster lifelong learning. Local employment opportunities are in abundance and continuously growing with new developments happening. It’s important to note that Alliston is home to a Honda manufacturing facility that employs more than 4200 people and continuously seeking to fill additional positions.
Alliston’s downtown area located on Highway 89, Victoria Street, is a vibrant urban shopping district nestled amidst country charm. Here you will find high-end fashion stores, jewelry, and home décor shops. Da Grazia Ristorante is a popular local Italian cuisine option located in the downtown area, perfect for a date night. Nan’s Coffee Bar and Tea at the Corner are both great cafés to satisfy your lunch break-fix.
Alliston combines rural and urban, creating a balanced living space. It has many city amenities while still providing a small-town vibe making this a desirable location to live.
