The Township of Tay is composed of four villages, Victoria Harbour, Port McNicoll, Waubaushene, and Waverley. Waubaushene is a picturesque community with a relaxed country setting perfect for those looking for a great cottage location or place to retire. Situated 90 minutes North of Toronto Waubaushene is easily accessible to numerous outdoor recreation activities within the community and nearby. Some property types you will find here are traditional cottage properties as well as single-family homes with average and large-sized lots.
There are plenty of fun water-based activities to do in Waubaushene such as boating, fishing, and swimming. Waubaushene Beach Park and Tanners Beach are both popular beach areas during the summer. They both have a sandy area where you can relax and have a picnic as well as a swimming area in the lake. The Waubaushene Government Dock is located at the Waubaushene Beach Park. Boaters can launch their boat for the day to go fishing or for a leisurely boat ride. If you like to fish, Waubaushene is a great area for fishing as they have a variety of different species in Sturgeon Bay.
If you prefer to explore by walking or hiking, Waubaushene has access to two different walking trails. The Tay Shore Trail can be accessed here which connects you to the rest of Tay Township. There are info plaques along the way outlining natural and historical aspects of Tay Township along the way. The Sturgeon River Trail is a short trail that takes you along the Sturgeon River. This trail is used by many locals for walking and running as well as snowshoeing during the winter.
Bridgeview Park is a popular playground and park for residents and visitors. There’s a playground for kids to enjoy, a volleyball court and a baseball diamond. It’s a great area for a picnic not only for its picturesque and relaxing setting but for its snack shack here as well. During the winter the town will build an outdoor rink here for community use.
Residents can enjoy a variety of recreation and fitness programs organized by the township. These classes take place at the community centres in Victoria Harbour and Port McNicoll. Some of these classes include yoga, pilates, and Zumba. They also offer a couple of different classes for seniors like chair yoga.
Waubaushene is a small community making shopping and amenities limited. Residents and visitors must do their grocery shopping in Victoria Harbour or the nearby Town of Midland. Rise To Fries is a popular takeout restaurant in Waubaushene that opened earlier this year. They serve a variety of different fries and poutines made from fresh-cut potatoes and hot dogs. If you’re looking for a restaurant with dine-in service, there are a couple of different places in Victoria Harbour that are great for a casual night out such as The Queen’s Quay British Pub and Restaurant.
Waubaushene is a quaint little community that’s great for those looking to trade in the urban lifestyle for something more relaxed or escape on the weekend to the cottage.
