Oro-Medonte

Just north of Barrie, following along the Lake Simcoe shoreline as it curves northeast to Orillia, Oro-Medonte is an expansive township in the heart of Simcoe County. It features many small settlements, quiet, some with a corner store and perhaps a restaurant or gallery, a church and a cemetery, they all offer a sense of community.

Home to ski resorts, Oro-Medonte has an extensive collection of recreational trails for cyclists, mountain bikers, hiking, and snowshoe enthusiasts. The township combines the best of hilly Medonte with the scenic shoreline and farmland of Oro. More than the sum of its parts, there is shopping, restaurants, and studios scattered across the area for seasonal festivities, events, or shows. Oro-Medonte offers all types of lifestyles and home variations making it a favourable place to live.

Shanty Bay got its name from the homes – the shanties – built by African American settlers who were loyal to the British Crown and moved northward into British North America. St. Thomas Anglican Church in Shanty Bay dates to 1842 and is one of the oldest churches in the area.
